Black Screen

Symptoms
The entire map is rendered as a solid black image, making it impossible to see or continue editing the map.
Although the map is no longer visible, all map data is still present.
Possible Causes
A black screen usually occurs when the browser runs out of available memory while rendering the map. This can happen when working on large or complex maps, using a high Editing Resolution, or when many browser tabs or applications are open.
Solutions
Important
Do not reload the page before saving your map. Reloading without saving will discard any unsaved changes.
Save the map using Ctrl + S or the Save button.
Reload the page.
Open the Main Menu and select Recover Map to restore the map.
Save the map again.
Continue working on the recovered map.
If the issue occurs repeatedly, try lowering the Editing Resolution or closing other browser tabs and applications to reduce memory usage.
Still Having Problems?
If the map still appears black after recovering it:
Try opening the map in a new browser tab.
Restart your browser.
Reduce the Editing Resolution before continuing to work.
Consider using the Inkarnate Desktop App. It generally provides better performance and is less likely to encounter browser memory limitations that can cause black screens.
If the problem persists, contact Inkarnate Support and describe when the black screen occurs.
Paid Feature
The Desktop App is available with a paid subscription.
